Salon Owner Posts $30k Bond On Molestation Charge

CROWN POINT, Ind. (Post-Tribune) ― A Griffith nail salon owner was released on $30,000 bail Wednesday on charges that he molested a 5-year-old girl in the salon's bathroom while her mother got a manicure and a pedicure.

Hung Quok Tran, owner of Nail Tek, 112 E. Ridge Road, allegedly cornered the victim in the bathroom while her mother was getting her nails done June 20 and asked her to perform a sex act on him, Lake Superior Court records state. When the girl refused, he pulled down her pants and molested her.

The girl did not tell her mother about the alleged incident until the next day, the mother said. After her daughter reported the incident, the mother called police.

The mother said her daughter had asked to go to the bathroom to blow her nose, that the girl was gone longer than she should have been, and that she saw Tran walked from the area where the girl had been.

She said she had visited the salon regularly for more than eight years, and had known Tran -- who uses the name Tony -- to be the owner for about four years.

Tran, 33, a Griffith resident, posted $3,000 on the Class C felony charge, which is punishable by a sentence of two to eight years in prison.
