Boy Found After Vanishing In East Chicago, Ind.

Billy Santos, 7, Had Last Been Seen Tuesday Evening

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (CBS) ― A 7-year-old boy has been found safe at home, more than 12 hours after he vanished in East Chicago, Ind.

East Chicago Police confirmed that Billy Santos was found Wednesday morning. The boy was found hiding in a pantry in his home and is safe, police said.

Before being found Wednesday morning, Billy had last been seen around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday night. His mother told CBS 2 he was last seen playing with some friends near his father's house at 150th Street and Indianapolis Boulevard.

A security monitor spotted Billy in the presence of his 9-year-old sister. He was wearing an orange shirt with a picture of a truck on the front, brown shorts, and shiny blue sneakers.

"I got a call at 8:30 that Billy was missing, so I drove out here to find out the situation," said his mother, Wendy Bragg, "and we're not sure if he took off playing with someone, or if someone took him."

Police and concerned residents searched parks, abandoned buildings, waterways and gas stations. They also sent out a canine unit and the Lake County, Ind., helicopter unit.

Filers were put up in neighboring towns and businesses, and all area sex offenders were interviewed, East Chicago police said.
