Man Killed In Schaumburg Motorcycle Crash

Busy Higgins Road Shut Down Near Scene

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (STNG) ― A man driving a motorcycle was killed Sunday afternoon after he collided with a car that made a U-turn in front him in northwest suburban Schaumburg, police said.

Dean Schroeder, 39, of 1733 N. Hicks Rd. in Palatine, was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m. at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, said the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Schroeder was driving a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle that collided with a 2008 Hyundai Sonata car at 4:42 p.m. at East Higgins Road (Illinois 72) and Mall Dr., according to a release from the Schaumburg Police Department.

He was not wearing a helmet, the release said.

A 30-year-old woman in the Hyundai was taken to Alexian Brothers, where she was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Preliminary information indicates that the Hyundai was westbound on Higgins Road when it made a U-turn in front of the eastbound motorcycle. Both vehicles appear to have had a green light, the release said.

Eastbound Higgins Road was closed between North Meecham Road and I-290 (Illinois 53) for about four hours while crews investigated the crash, Nebl said.

Citations and charges will not be determined until the accident reconstruction has been completed and the results of forensic tests have been received, according to the release.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Sunday night.

Anyone will information regarding the crash is asked to call the Schaumburg Police Accident Reconstruction Team at (847) 882-3534.
