A student from Northwestern University is among the latest to be diagnosed with the H1N1 flu.
The undergraduate student, who was living on the school's Evanston campus, returned home after she started to exhibit symptoms. She is now recovering without complications, according to a release from Northwestern.
Under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the student will be allowed to return to campus either 24 hours after she isn't exhibiting flu-like symptoms anymore or seven days after first coming down with the illness, whichever is longer.
The others who live in the student's dorm are being notified, Northwestern said.
Northwestern will not be closing. But they ask anyone who is feeling ill to stay home from work or classes, and see Northwestern Health services for testing and treatment if they exhibit flu-like symptoms.
As of Thursday, there were a total of 618 confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in Illinois, and two suspected cases. Of the confirmed cases, 274 were in Chicago, 179 were in suburban Cook County, 47 were in DuPage County, 39 were in Will County, 26 were in Kane County, and 22 were in Lake County. The others were spread out in other counties throughout the state, mostly in Northern Illinois.
To stay healthy, IDPH recommends the three C's -- clean: properly wash your hands frequently; cover: cover your cough and sneeze; and contain: contain your germs by staying home if sick.
