3 Held In String Of North Suburban Burglaries
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Three north suburban residents have been arrested and charged with burglary after being caught virtually red-handed after a break-in at a gas station.
The Lake County Sheriff's office on Thursday charged two men and a woman with two counts each of burglary, according to a release.
The investigation started when sheriff's deputies noticed a suspicious subject walking in the area of the Mobil station near Green Bay and Blanchard roads in Beach Park at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, the release said.
When the deputies began questioning the subject, later identified as 26-year-old Joey Rodriguez of Waukegan, they learned he had been in a vehicle with 27-year-old Ellen M. Smedegard of Park City and 31- year-old Jerami J. Henderson of Waukegan.
An inspection of the Mobil station revealed the front window had been smashed and some cases of beer had been taken.
During questioning, it was determined the three subjects were involved in the burglary at the Mobil station and a burglary two days prior at Franks and Fries in Beach Park, the release said. In that incident, a cash drawer and $30 was taken.
Nothing was taken at the Mobil station because the burglary was interrupted by police.
Rodriguez, Smedegard and Henderson also admitted to several burglaries in Waukegan, including a Merlin Muffler Shop, Midas Muffler Shop, Marathon Station and Latino Cellular Store, the release said. Waukegan police are considering charges in those incidents.
Smedegard was released Friday on a recognizance bond, while Rodriguez and Henderson are being held in Lake County Jail on $100,000 bond each, the release said. Each faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
