Hospital Fires Doctor Arrested On Sex Charges

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (Lake County News-Sun) ― Advocate heath care officials confirmed Friday that a physician arrested earlier this month on sex and drugs charges has been fired.

Robert J. Hughes Jr., was let go March 10 from his work as a family physician in Buffalo Grove, said Advocate Medical Group vice president of communications, Mary Jo Golson.

Days earlier, Hughes was arrested at his Wilmette home after it was learned he allegedly gave a minor drugs in exchange for sex. He was also charged with manufacturing child pornography.

Hughes worked as a physician at an Advocate-owned practice at 216 McHenry Road. He was employed by the company since at least 1999, Golson said.

Police were alerted to Hughes after the girl's parents discovered a text message from Hughes offering to transport her to Chicago to purchase drugs. He did not meet the girl through his work, police said.

Hughes also faces charges for possession of marijuana and endangering the life of a child.
