Wilmette Doctor Arrested For Child Pornography
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
A suburban family doctor faces several charges, including child pornography, sex-for-drugs, underage drinking and child pornography.
Police say the incident occurred at Dr. Robert Hughes's home.
As CBS 2 North Suburban Bureau Chief Katie McCall reports, police say Hughes, 48, was giving at least one underage girl drug money in exchange for sex.
Investigators tell CBS 2 the girl's parents reported him to Wilmette police after reading a text message the doctor allegedly sent their daughter, offering to take her to Chicago to buy drugs.
After searching the doctor's Wilmette apartment, police say they discovered the family practice physician had created child pornography with the girl. He allegedly engaged in sex acts with her, recorded them and compensated her with cash.
State records indicate Hughes has been licensed in Illinois since 1987 and until his arrest had been seeing patients at this clinic in Buffalo Grove.
The news is shocking to Santiago Perez who says his four daughters have all been patients of Dr. Hughes.
"He's a really nice, you know, nice person, nice doctor," Perez said.
Police say the doctor did not meet his alleged victim through the medical practice, but Perez says the idea that his daughters were in his care for more than a decade is disturbing.
Hughes' license to practice medicine has not been suspended. He's charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault, two counts of manufacturing child pornography, possession of marijuana and endangering the life or health of a child.
Wilmette police say more charges are expected and they want anyone with information to contact them immediately.
Hughes goes to court next Monday.
