Cicero To Dedicate Classroom To NIU Victim

CICERO, Ill. (AP) ― The town of Cicero plans to pay tribute to Northern Illinois University shooting victim Catalina Garcia by dedicating a classroom to her in its new community center.

The town says the dedication ceremony for classroom Number One is set for Wednesday. Garcia graduated from Morton East High School and was from Cicero. Town officials say they chose the classroom to honor Garcia because she wanted to be a teacher.

Garcia died February 14th when a gunman entered her NIU geology class, killing her and four other students before turning the gun on himself. She was 20 years old.

The town says it will present Garcia's family with a plaque and post a memorial plaque outside of the classroom.
