Kennedy Completes Last Day Of Chemo, Radiation

BOSTON (CBS) ― Sen. Ted Kennedy finished his last day of radiation and chemotherapy Friday and headed back home to the Cape, his wife, Vicki, said in an e-mail to family and friends that CBS station WBZ-TV obtained.

"He remained strong and was able to stay on schedule throughout this shock and awe phase of the treatment and his doctors – and we – are enormously pleased with his progress," Vickie said in her e-mailed update sent on Friday.

Kennedy was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor after suffering from a seizure at his Cape Cod home on May 17.

He has been undergoing treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital.

"As you can imagine, after six weeks, we've really come to know and respect the entire Mass General treatment team – doctors, nurses and technicians – and, even in the midst of this very serious business, we've shared a lot of laughter. But that's not surprising to those of us who love and know Teddy – there's always laughter when he's around," Vicki said.

In her email, Vicki said Kennedy continues to do well and will continue to be treated for his cancer in the coming weeks and months.

Vicki closed her note by saying the family will have more free time and they won't have to travel as much as they have been because of the daily treatments.

"Happy summer. We're feeling very blessed."
