Fiancée Of Accused 'Craigslist Killer' Speaks Out

BOSTON (CBS) ― An attorney for the fiancée of accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff said his client still loves her fiancé and will "continue to support him throughout this legal process."

Megan McAllister released a brief statement to the media on Monday through her attorney:

"In the past two short weeks, my life and what I hoped my life to be has dramatically changed. I want to thank my family and my friends who have supported me during this very difficult time. Without them, I don't know how I could make it through this nightmare. I hope they know that I love each and every one of them.

"I also love my fiancé and will continue to support him throughout this legal process. My heart also goes out to all those afflicted by these events, especially the family and individuals who have suffered from this tragedy.

"It is my intent to fully cooperate with my fiancé's attorney, as well as the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office as they both continue their investigations. I can only tell them what I know and what is the truth. I will expect these discussions to happen in the next several days.

"What has been portrayed and leaked to the media, is not the Philip Markoff I know. To me and my family, he is a loving and caring person and in the eyes of the law and the Constitution is innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

"I can only hope that the criminal justice system will not be persuaded by what is being put forth in the media. My fiancé's fate should not rest in the court of public opinion, but in a court of law."

Markoff and McAllister were planning to get married in August. She has stood by Markoff as he faces murder and robbery charges.

Markoff is accused of killing Julissa Brisman on April 14 at the Marriott Copley Place. Police say he contacted Brisman through an ad she placed on Craigslist.

He also faces charges in the robbery of a woman at the Westin Copley four days earlier.

Markoff has also been linked to a botched robbery at a Holiday Inn Express in Warwick, Rhode Island, April 16.

He is currently being held at the Nashua Street Jail in Boston and is on suicide watch.
