A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hits the coast of Oregon Saturday, and the U.S. Geological Survey said strong ocean currents posed a threat to those in or near the ocean.

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Oregon Saturday, and the U.S. Geological Survey said strong ocean currents posed a threat to those in the area.
The quake was first reported at 6:44 a.m. PT, according to the USGS Web site. It was centered about 112 miles west of Port Orford, Oregon.
There were no reports of a tsunami threat. The earthquake was originally reported to be 6.0 magnitude.
