A lawyer for Drew Peterson has denied a large container was ever hauled out of the former police officer's suburban home the day his wife vanished.
Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, said talk of his client removing a large plastic container from his home, that published reports say was "warm to the touch" is just plain untrue, reported CBS station WBBM-TV in Chicago.
"The whole thing seems like a never-ending rumor that started with comments that Stacy's sister made and seems to have been growing ever since ," Brodsky said. "There never was a drum."
Peterson's stepbrother reportedly said he removed a container from an upstairs bedroom and put it in his sport-utility vehicle, according to media reports that cited anonymous sources close to the investigation into Stacy Peterson's disappearance last month.
The stepbrother, Thomas Morphey, later became distraught after learning that Stacy Peterson was missing and tried to kill himself, The Herald News of Joliet reported Wednesday.
WBBM-TV legal analyst Irv Miller said the revelation a plastic container was allegedly removed from the Peterson home can be looked at two ways.
"You know this could be a bombshell or absolutely nothing," Miller said.
Authorities say Drew Peterson is a suspect in his fourth wife's disappearance and have called her case a possible homicide. Investigators are also re-examining the 2004 death of Drew Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio. Police have said her death may have been a homicide staged to look like an accidental bathtub drowning.
Peterson, 53, has denied wrongdoing, saying he believes the 23-year-old Stacy Peterson left him for another man and is alive. Peterson has since resigned from the police force.
Stacy Peterson was last seen by her relatives on Oct. 28.
