The Dukes Of Hazzard

Richard Roeper: "Skip It"

(CBS) It's not like I expected "The Dukes of Hazzard" to be any good, given that the original show was trash and the movie features such noted thespians as Jessica Simpson and Johnny Knoxville. I just didn't know it would be this awful.

In a summer filled with lots of bad remakes and retreads, "The Dukes of Hazzard" is by far the dopiest and the cheesiest. This is an insult to anyone with a sixth-grade education. Sean William Scott and Johnny Knoxville have turned Luke and Bo Duke into obnoxious, cackling serial felons.

And with her big head, big hair, big teeth and disturbing perma-tan, Jessica Simpson is like a human Barbie doll. But your daughter's Barbie, even though it's a doll, probably has a more natural facial expression than Simpson. It looks like it's almost painful for this woman to speak.

There are at least a half-dozen chase sequences in "Dukes," and none of them are the least bit creative or interesting. And poor Burt Reynolds looks like the Wax Museum version of himself in the Boss Hogg role.

Rated PG-13 for leering sexuality and mild violence, "The Dukes of Hazzard" represents everything that's wrong with Hollywood these days. Skip It.
