Joliet Street Named After Fallen Officer

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) ― A street in Joliet has been named after a police officer who died while on duty four years ago in a vehicle accident.

Officer Jonathan Walsh's mother Norma Walsh said Sunday that she's glad the community hasn't forgotten her son. Ohio Street now has the honorary designation of "Jonathan Walsh Way."

Walsh died in August 2004 when his police car was struck by a sport utility vehicle while on his way to an emergency call. Walsh's car struck a crane and he died from injuries.

Joliet Sergeant Larry Collins called the street sign a small token to remember and honor Walsh.
