Indictment Of Accused Father Could Come Within Weeks
ZION, Ill. (AP) ―
A Lake County prosecutor says he expects to ask a grand jury within the next three weeks to indict the man suspected in the Mother's Day slayings of his daughter and another little girl.
Jeff Pavletic also says his boss -- Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller -- won't decide whether to seek the death penalty for Jerry Hobbs until after the indictment is handed down.
Hobbs is charged with first-degree murder in the beating and stabbing deaths of eight-year-old Laura Hobbs and her best friend, nine-year-old Krystal Tobias.
Meanwhile, funerals will be held later this week for two girls stabbed to death on Mother's Day in the northern Illinois community of Zion.
Visitation for nine-year-old Krystal Tobias is tomorrow night at the Congdon Funeral Home on Sheridan Road in Zion. Her funeral is Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church in Winthrop Harbor.
Visitation for eight-year-old Laura Hobbs is Sunday afternoon at the Congdon funeral home with a funeral service to follow.
Prosecutors say Hobbs' father has admitted beating and stabbing the girls.
A Lake County judge yesterday ordered 34-year-old Jerry Hobbs held without bail.
