Chicago Could Be Headed For Whopper Of A Week
Election, World Series, Halloween Could Make For Busy 6 Days
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
If you live or work in Chicago, you could be in for quite an experience trying to get around during the busiest six days in the history of the city.
A seventh game of the World Series, a victory parade and an election night rally could all happen in one jam-packed week.
CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports Chicago's last World Series victory celebration drew an estimated 2 million for the White Sox in 2006.
How many will come to Chicago trying to catch a glimpse of Barack Obama on Election Night?
People in charge of logistics and security are already preparing for what could be an amazing six-day convergence of politics and sports.
Baseball's the biggest variable, but the calendar could look like this:
Thursday, Oct. 30, Game 7 of the World Series at the White Sox home field on the South Side;
Friday, Halloween, with a crowd at the Haunted Village in the Daley Center; and the Blackhawks hosting the Dallas Stars at 7:30 at the United Center;
Saturday, Nov. 1, could see a Cubs or White Sox World Series winner parade. The Bulls host Memphis that night at the United Center;
Sunday, the Bears host the Detroit Lions at noon at Soldier Field;
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4th. Barack Obama's campaign is already planning for what it hopes would be a victory celebration, though no details are yet being released, and no one's sure just how many might show up, with or without tickets.
Here is where we have to offer the disclaimers. It's possible that the Cubs and Sox could be eliminated before the World Series, and Obama's campaign could fall totally flat, with voters losing interest.
On the other hand, it could be the busiest six days in the history of Chicago.
