Four women who allegedly killed a man on the South Side for "disrespecting" them by throwing a beer bottle were formally charged with murder and armed robbery on Thursday.
Tiffany Cox, 25; Carmelita Hall, 25; Roslind Ball, 22; and 25-year-old Miesha Nelson were indicted Thursday of five counts each of first-degree murder and one count each of armed robbery, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.
According to prosecutors, the women were playing cards with Morris Wilson in Cox's apartment early in the morning of Feb. 1 when an argument started. Although prosecutors did not say what prompted the fight, a source close to the investigation says it escalated over a broken cigarette.
Wilson, 30, was asked to leave the apartment in the 8200 block of South Drexel Avenue and, as he walked out the door, allegedly threw a beer bottle at it, according to prosecutors.
Nelson, who felt Wilson "disrespected" the women through his actions, told them they "need to beat him up" and went to the kitchen to grab a knife. The women found Wilson a few blocks away in the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue, where Nelson stabbed him, then passed the knife to Hall, who repeatedly stabbed him as the others kicked, punched and stomped on him, according to prosecutors.
Wilson was pronounced dead on the scene at 8147 S. Drexel Ave., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. An autopsy determined he died of multiple stab and incise wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Police later followed a trail of blood to Cox's apartment, according to prosecutors. Cox allegedly said she was there alone with her child, but officers found the other three women sneaking out the back door.
Cox later admitted to detectives she stomped on Wilson's head, Nelson told them she stabbed Wilson once and took his coat, and Ball said she kicked him, according to prosecutors.
All four women, who are being held without bond, will be arraigned on March 10, Simonton said.
