Bond was set at $100,000 for the mother of a baby boy found abandoned in a Wheaton yard was in court Monday on criminal charges.
The bond was set for Nunu Sung, 24, of Wheaton, at the DuPage County courthouse.
Sung was arrested on a $50,000 arrest warrant on charges of endangering the health or life of a child and obstruction of justice, according to the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
A neighborhood resident found the naked infant with his umbilical cord still attached lying in a yard on the 800 block of East Michigan Street just before 8 a.m. Friday, Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Tom Meloni said. Police estimated the baby weighed about five pounds and was only a few hours old when he was discovered, he said.
Friday, police said in a news release that the infant's condition was "critical but improving," but later said that his condition had stabilized.
Meloni said the area is residential and that the infant was found in a yard near a garage.
A nearby resident knew something was awry when she let her dog out this morning and it wouldn't stop barking. When she went outside to see the problem, she discovered the infant lying near bushes alongside a nearby garage, Meloni said.
The woman wrapped the baby in a towel and called police.
If the baby recovers, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services will be responsible for finding him foster care, Meloni said.
