8 Injured, 4 Reportedly Children, In W. Side Crash

CHICAGO (STNG) ― One person is in critical condition, and seven others are injured, possibly including four children, following a crash Sunday morning in the West Side's Garfield Park neighborhood.

Emergency crews responded to the crash about 10:50 a.m. at Keeler Avenue and Madison Street, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.

The incident involved two vehicles, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said. Seven of the injured people were in one vehicle at the time of the crash.

The occupants of that vehicle were in good condition as of 6 p.m. Sunday. The lone occupant and driver of the other vehicle was critically injured in the crash, Taylor said.

Details on the cause of the crash were not available, and no citations were issued as of 6 p.m., Taylor said.

The critically injured person was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Rosado said.

Three people, including two adults and one child, were taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park in "stable" condition, Rosado said.

Three additional people, including one child, were taken to Loretto Hospital in "stable" condition, and one other person was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital in "stable" condition, Rosado said.

Unconfirmed fire dispatch reports indicate four children and four adults were taken to hospitals. Rosado could not confirm the number of children involved in the crash.

An EMS Plan 1, which automatically sends five ambulances to the scene, was initiated at 10:55 a.m. and was secured at 11:10 a.m., Rosado said.
