Man Electrocuted In West Chatham Neighborhood
John Jones, 63, Was Doing Electrical Work On Lafayette Avenue
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A man was apparently electrocuted Thursday afternoon in the South Side's West Chatham neighborhood.
John Jones, 63, of 5180 S. Cornell Ave., was apparently electrocuted at 8032 S. Lafayette Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said Jones was doing electrical work at the Lafayette address, but did not know if he was a licensed electrician.
He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
Police were notified of the incident about 3:30 p.m., News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. Gaines said doctors told police the man was possibly electrocuted.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said paramedics did not take the man to Saint Bernard Hospital, and it was not known how he got there.
