Man Shot Dead By Police On South Side

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Chicago Police fatally shot a man early Saturday near his South Side home.

Devon Young, 26, of 5939 S. Lafayette Ave., was shot at 5848 S. Wabash Ave. and pronounced dead at 3:37 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area shot Young about 2:40 a.m., said Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne.

Nobody else was injured, Payne said.

It was not immediately known why officers fired shots, but a weapon was recovered on the scene, Payne said.

The IPRA is investigating.
