Man Accused Of Invading U Of C Student's Apartment

Clyde Williams Allegedly Broke In, Climbed Into Female Student's Bed

CHICAGO (CBS) ― An Uptown neighborhood man has been charged with home invasion after allegedly breaking into the residence of a University of Chicago student in Hyde Park last year.

Clyde Williams, 49, of the 1000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, was charged with felony home invasion, according to police.

Williams was arrested Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at his home and the charge was approved Thursday night, according to police.

Williams was taken into custody after DNA evidence recovered from the scene of the alleged incident matched up with a sample or profile that was in the national CODIS database and he was identified, according to police.

The invasion allegedly occurred Oct. 2, 2008, at 5429 S. Woodlawn Ave. when a female U of C student awoke to allegedly find Williams in her bed, according to police.

The suspect allegedly placed a pillow over her head when she screamed, but she was able to shove him off her and push him to the floor, according to police.

The quiet, leafy area around 54th Street and Woodlawn Avenue is lined with several large apartment buildings that are largely occupied by U of C students.

Court information for Williams was not immediately available.
