Web Site: Bridgeport Is Best Trick-Or-Treat 'Hood

Zillow Real Estate Info Site Ranks Neighborhoods Based On Home Values, Walkability, Safety, Density

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Bridgeport tops the list on a real estate Web site's index of the best Chicago neighborhoods for trick-or-treating.

The real estate information Web site Zillow compiled its Trick-or-Treat Housing Index, used its own home value index and statistics on density, walkability and crime to find out where kids are likely to get the most candy, with the least walking and the smallest safety risks.

The South Side's Bridgeport neighborhood topped the list for its "good schools, easy commute, and friendly faces," Zillow said. The Web site quoted a local who spoke of a strong bond between neighbors, and said, "You may not know their names, but you've seen them all your life."

The neighborhood has been home to five of the city's 45 mayors, and is the birthplace of Mayor Richard M. Daley. Zillow's figures say home prices have risen 4.9 percent in the neighborhood year over year.

The Albany Park neighborhood ranks second in the Zillow survey for its ethnic diversity. The neighborhood has large Mexican, Guatemalan, Korean, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Eastern European and Middle Eastern populations and businesses, and dozens of languages can be heard on the streets.
"Such cultural diversity is sure to bring many creative costumes, cultures, and candies to trick-or-treaters," Zillow said.

The Web site added that one of the neighborhood's most famous residents, deposed Gov. Rod Blagojevich, might spark some creative costumes.

Logan Square ranked third in the survey for its public square at Milwaukee and Kedzie avenues and Logan Boulevard, and neighborhood Halloween activities – among them a Haunted House at the Shakespeare District Police Station, 2150 N. California Ave.

The North Side's Rogers Park neighborhood came in fourth, in part for the "scary good real estate deals" for adults with housing prices down 16 percent. Zillow also cited the presence of a neighborhood family event, Halloween in Rogers Park at Jarvis Square, at Greenview and Jarvis avenues.

Ranking fifth was the trendy Lakeview neighborhood a few miles to the south. The neighborhood, which is actually one name for several neighborhoods including the Southport corridor, Wrigleyville, and Boystown, is described by Zillow as "especially fun for 'big kids.'"
Zillow said the "beautiful homes" in the neighborhood could mean plenty of trick-or-treat candy and "real estate eye candy."
