The Tribune's new tabloid edition was given to commuters on Monday.
Chicago Tribune
Commuters who picked up a copy of the Chicago Tribune as they rode the train or bus noticed that its size and appearance had changed dramatically.
The tabloid-size edition of the Tribune was issued on Monday. It has the same content as the Tribune's traditional broadsheet and will be available at stores, newsstands, train stations and newspaper boxes.
For Monday only, the edition is being given away for free.
The CEO of Chicago Tribune Media Group, Tony Hunter, says readers have asked for a more convenient version of the paper.
The initiative's a clear bid to deliver a blow to rival, the Chicago Sun-Times. Many commuters have favored the single-copy tabloid Sun-Times as a less cumbersome format en route to and from work.
Home subscribers will still receive the Tribune's broadsheet. And the Tribune free commuter tabloid, the RedEye, will also remain unchanged.
