3-Year-Old Runs Into Alley, Fatally Struck By Car
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
An 18-year-old driver fatally struck a 3-year-old boy who ran into a South Side alley Saturday night.
The driver stayed on the scene of the accident, and was issued three tickets, police News Affairs Officer John Henry said.
The driver was heading south in the 11200 block of South Avenue 0 about 8 p.m. when the boy ran into the alley and was struck, Henry said.
The boy, Juilan Pimental, of 13445 S. Avenue K, was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital at 8:34 p.m., a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman said.
Pimental died of multiple injuries from a van striking a pedestrian, according to an autopsy performed Sunday. His death has been ruled an accident.
Jorge Mares, of the 11200 block of South Green Bay, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving without a driver's license and operating a vehicle without insurance. Mares was not taken into police custody.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is probing the accident.
