Customer Pays For Tires, Then Shoots 2, Killing 1
Gunman Identified, But Motive Unknown
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A man paid for tires then fatally shot one man and injured another at a Chicago Lawn neighborhood tire shop Tuesday afternoon.
Police have identified the 31-year-old shooter, but he remains at-large early Wednesday, police said.
Killed was Jermaine Price, 34,of 8011 S. Ada St., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Price was dead on the scene.
After paying the owner of Tenorio's Tire, 2543 W. 63rd St., for tires put on his car, the gunman pulled a revolver about 3:20 p.m., and walked to the back of the store where Price and Kenard Williams, 46, stood near a rear entrance that led to an alley, Wentworth Area detectives said.
Price and Williams saw the shooter, who did not say anything to them during the attack, and ran to the front of the store while the gunman fired at least one shot. With the gunman still in pursuit and firing, Price and Williams ran out the front door and collapsed outside in a vacant lot at 2551 W. 63rd St., Wentworth Area detectives said.
Price suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body, police said.
Williams, of the 500 block of West 107th Street, suffered a gunshot wound through the arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A motive is unknown, but police have identified the man because he is a customer. At 1 a.m. Wednesday, the gunman was not in custody.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
