3 Attacked At West Side Restaurant
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Three people were stabbed inside a restaurant on the West Side Thursday afternoon.
The attack occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Grandaddy's Deli, 2334 W. Taylor St.
As CBS 2's Suzanne LeMignot reports, police say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, and the incident is gang related.
A witness described it as an extremely vicious and violent attack. She said one person was hit in the head repeatedly with a baseball bat, another was stabbed multiple times in the back, and a third was stabbed in the hip.
All three victims are related to a woman who works at the sandwich shop reportedly her father, brother and sister.
The three went to the shop to get an Italian ice, and when the woman's brother entered, two men ran in after him and reportedly began stabbing him in the back. Then the woman's father and sister entered the shop. That's when a third man allegedly entered and began hitting the woman's father in the head.
A scuffle then reportedly began, which led to the woman's sister being stabbed in the hip. During the scuffle the woman's father grabbed one of the men who was attacking the family, and that man is now in police custody.
Two of the victims were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, and the other to Stroger Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
