Man Allegedly Made Threat To Lincoln Park H.S.

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― An observant Lincoln Park High School student helped police arrest a man for allegedly threatening gun violence at the North Side school Friday.

Jovan Battle, 21, of the 1900 block of North Kedzie Avenue, was arrested and charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct Friday morning, according to police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.

"We have no reason to believe any students are or were in danger," she said.

About 3 p.m. Thursday, a Lincoln Park student riding a CTA bus overheard a man say something to the effect of "that he and some other people were going to bring guns to the school and shoot up the place today [Friday]," Chicago Public Schools spokesman Malon Edwards said.

The student who overheard the statements gave police information about the man, who is not a student, including information about his "unique" tattoos, which helped police find and arrest him, according to Edwards.

"It seems like the student who identified him was really observant,'' Edwards said.

The threat "wasn't very credible'' and the school, at 2001 N. Orchard St., was not placed on lockdown Friday, Edwards said.

Beside having a few more safety and security officers stationed at the school, students are shaving a normal day, with nothing out of the ordinary, Edwards said Friday morning.
