State Lawmakers Vote To Ban Texting While Driving
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) ―
Illinois lawmakers have voted to bar people from texting or checking e-mail while driving. Now it's up to Gov. Pat Quinn to decide whether the ban will become law.
The House passed the ban 92-25 on Thursday. The Senate approved the bill last week.
It would bar drivers from reading their e-mail or sending text messages while moving. But they could do it while pulled over to the side of road or at a standstill in traffic.
The ban would not apply to reading directions from a navigation system.
