Bond has been set at $50,000 for one of two teenagers charged with burglary in connection with the Tuesday night invasion of an off-duty Hazel Crest police officer's home on the Southeast Side.
A 15-year-boy -- who was shot by the officer while fleeing the scene -- is charged asa a juvenile with residential burglary and home invasion, but court information was not immediately available.
Cook County Judge Ramon Ocasio set bond at $50,000 for Durrell Culverson, 17, of the 8600 block of South Saginaw during a Wednesday hearing, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Charged with one count of residential burglary, Culverson was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 13 in Far South Felony Court (Br. 38).
About 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, two offenders entered the home of an off-duty Hazel Crest officer in the 8500 block of South Phillips Avenue, according to police.
The offenders broke into the rear of the home and the officer fired his weapon in their direction. They fled the scene but were apprehended in the 8500 block of South Essex Avenue, police said.
The 15-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition with a gunshot wound, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.
Police on Thursday confirmed the officer shot the teen.
The second offender was not injured and was taken into custody by Calumet Area detectives.
