Another CPS Student Shot Dead On West Side

Victim Had Attended Crane High, Most Recently Attended CPS Alternative School

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A teen was fatally shot in the chest in a Tuesday night murder on the West Side, becoming the 24th Chicago Public Schools student this year to die of gunfire.

Marcus Greer, 17, was shot about 9:30 p.m. while in the street with a group of people at 415 S. Lotus Ave., police said.

Greer, of 5531 W. Congress Pkwy., was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 9:57 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

He was shot in the chest, according to an Austin District sergeant, who said the victim had a history of arrests.

Another male was shot, but was treated and released from an area hospital. The sergeant did not know if the surviving victim, of an unknown age, was among the group with the teen killed.

Greer was a former student at Crane High School, at 2245 W. Jackson Blvd., and was currently enrolled at Community Christian Academy, a CPS alternative high school at 1439 W. 103rd St.

The sergeant said a motive had not been determined at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Crisis counselors are available at Greer's school, CPS officials said.
