Teen Charged In Fatal Shooting Of CPS Student

Marcus Greer, 17, Was Shot Dead On West Side Tuesday

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A 16-year-old charged with involuntary manslaughter for the Tuesday death of a 17-year-old Chicago Public Schools student was ordered held Friday based on an outstanding warrant from an unrelated case.

The teen, a Chicago resident, appeared in juvenile court Friday before Cook County Judge Richard Walsh, according to Andy Conklin, spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office. Friday's hearing was on a warrant for an outstanding possession of a controlled substance case that was not connected to the fatal shooting, Conklin said.

The juvenile is expected to appear in court again on Monday during a custody hearing stemming from the shooting, Conklin said. The juvenile has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, he said.

The juvenile is accused of fatally shooting Marcus Greer, 17, at 415 S. Lotus Ave. about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Greer was the 24th CPS student killed this school year by violence, the 21st to be shot to death.

Greer, of 5531 W. Congress Pkwy., was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 9:57 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

CPS spokesman Mike Vaughn said Greer was a student at CSW Community Christian Academy, 1231 S. Pulaski Rd., an alternative high school for students at risk of dropping out.
