2 Men Sentenced In Teen Prostitution Ring
WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Two Bolingbrook men have been sentenced to jail for their roles in running a prostitution ring that involved two teenage girls.
Brandon M. Spain, 20, and Ivan I. Atilano, 22, are serving their sentences in DuPage County Jail. Spain has also been placed on two years of felony probation.
Spain pleaded guilty Nov. 12 in DuPage County Circuit Court to a charge of juvenile pimping, according to court records. Companion charges of contributing to the delinquency of a child and harboring a runaway were dismissed in exchange for the plea.
Atilano was acquitted of the pimping charge Oct. 29 but convicted of charges of unlawful use of a weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a child, records showed. A fourth charge of harboring a runaway was dismissed.
A judge sentenced Atilano to 298 days in jail, said Paul Darrah, spokesman for DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett. Spain drew a 159-day jail term, Darrah said.
Atilano and Spain were indicted for the crimes last summer, following a sting operation coordinated by Downers Grove police.
An undercover officer contacted one of the teen prostitutes via a Web site and arranged a rendezvous with her, authorities said earlier this year. The prostitutes were two girls ages 16 and 17.
The officer met May 30 with one of the girls at the Extended Stay America Chicago hotel at 1021 W. Ogden Ave. in Naperville. Spain and Atilano were also at the hotel at the time, and information developed there by police led to their arrests for being the girls' pimps.
