CHICAGO (STNG) ― A 17-year-old man died Monday after someone he got into a car accident with grabbed and dragged him alongside their vehicle while fleeing the scene of the crash early Sunday.

About 6 a.m. Sunday, the teen was in a vehicle heading south in the 2400 block of South Hamlin Street when a westbound vehicle struck his, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said.

The teen exited his vehicle along with the driver of the other vehicle, Ursitti said. They flashed gang signs at one another and became involved in a verbal altercation.

Another person with the driver of the other vehicle grabbed the teen and got into their car and drove off, dragging the teen alongside the vehicle, Ursitti said.

Christopher Sodaro was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital Hospital at 7:04 p.m. Sunday, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

The driver of the other vehicle was not in custody Monday night and no vehicle description was available.

An autopsy for Sodaro is scheduled for Tuesday.
