Teen Charged With Driving Drunk Into Trees, Fence

BARTLETT,Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A Grundy County teen faces DUI and several other charges for allegedly driving his car into trees and a fence in northwest suburban Bartlett and then fleeing the scene Friday morning.

At about 4 a.m. Friday, Bartlett police responded to the area of Woodland Hills Parkway and Windgate Court to a report of a hit-and-run accident. A vehicle had apparently left the roadway and struck several trees and a fence in the back yard of a residence before fleeing the scene, according to a release from police.

Investigation led police to Jacob W. Opyd, 18, of Gardner, located in Grundy County about 30 miles southwest of Joliet, the release said.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol while minor, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

He is scheduled to appear in DuPage County Court in Wheaton on Feb. 3, according to the release.
