19-Year-Old Dies On Birthday Motorcycle
GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (CBS) ―
A west suburban teenager with a zest for life and a sense of adventure had his life come to a tragic end on his 19th birthday. He died on a motorcycle - a birthday present he bought for himself.
"He just loved life, having fun, he just made everybody around him smile," said John Trifone, victim's father.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports that John Trifone says he has so many beautiful memories of the time spent with his son, Bradley Trifone.
"Brad and I got to go to the Super Bowl together," John said. "We just had a blast."
Bradley was killed on Tuesday, his 19th birthday. He was riding a motorcycle he bought less than 24 hours earlier for his birthday.
The driver of a semi told police in Lafayette, Indiana he didn't see Bradley. He ran over the teen when the light turned green.
"I talked to him Tuesday morning and he was extremely happy," said Marlene Trifone, victim's mother. "He loved college, he loved the ROTC program, and I couldn't be prouder of him."
Bradley had been a freshman at Purdue for a little more than a month. The Sociology major received a full scholarship through the Marine ROTC program to attend the university.
Bradley enlisted at the age of 18. He was passionate about the Marine Corps.
His father has a message for all parents.
"Hopefully, everybody can recognize there's nothing more important than telling your kids how much you love 'em," John said.
Bradley attended Glenbard South High School. His parents are setting up a scholarship fund for ROTC candidates and underprivileged students attending area youth programs. It's all being done in Bradley's memory.
The semi driver has not been cited. The investigation continues. Bradley Trifone's wake will take place Friday. His funeral will be held on Saturday.
