Teen Dead After Englewood Shooting

ENGLEWOOD, Ill. (CBS) ― Police are looking for a motive in the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in front of his Englewood home early Wednesday morning.

Allan Komperda was fatally shot early Wednesday in front of his home at 140 W. 66th St., a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

Komperda was pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital at 10:42 a.m., the spokesman said.

About 2:20 a.m., the teen, who did not appear to have gang ties, was in the 100 block of West 66th Street where he was shot, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.

The incident was initially reported as an aggravated battery, but the investigation is now being handled as a homicide since the boy's death.

"Somebody just came and took his life," said victim's mother Annette Lanier. "Just took it. How can you come and takeĀ a child's life? What was it all about?"

Wentworth Area detectives said early Wednesday that the teen was seriously wounded and the incident was a "walk-up," meaning the gunman was on foot when he shot.

Taylor said police had no one in custody Wednesday night, and no known motive for the shooting.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
