$500,000 Bond For Man Charged With Shooting Teen

15-Year-Old Allan Komperda Was Shot Dead Outside His Home

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Bond was set at $500,000 Friday for a man accused of fatally shooting a 15-year-old high school student after he answered the door of his Englewood community home early Wednesday on the South Side.

Willie Thompson appeared before Judge Israel Desierto Friday, who set his bond and ordered that Thompson return to court on Aug. 20 for a preliminary hearing, according to Cook County State's Attorney Office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Thompson, 19, of the 100 block of West 66th Street, was charged with the murder of 15-year-old Allan Komperda, according to a release from police News Affairs.

Charges were approved Thursday, the release said.

Komperda was fatally shot early Wednesday in front of his home at 140 W. 66th St., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which said Komperda was pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital at 10:42 a.m. An autopsy Thursday determined Komperda died of a gunshot wound to the pelvis and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

About 2:20 a.m., the teen, who did not appear to have gang ties, was shot in the 100 block of West 66th Street, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner's office as Komperda, answered the door and the attacker shot him and fled, according to News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Komperda would have been starting the tenth grade in the fall at Chicago Vocational Career Academy, according to Chicago Public Schools spokesman Malon Edwards.

Wentworth Area detectives, who are investigating, said that the teen was seriously wounded immediately after the shooting early Wednesday and the incident was a "walk-up," meaning the gunman was on foot when he shot.
