Fewer Restaurants, Higher Prices Coming To Taste

Robinson's Ribs Out After 22 Years

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Some of your favorites may be missing at the Taste of Chicago this summer.

Robinson's No. 1 Ribs will not be offering its usual baby back ribs this year, because they say the costs are too high. Robinson's has been a staple of the Taste since 1987, Crain's Chicago Business reported.

Several other restaurants are also raising the prices on their "Taste" portions because of the higher costs of food.

Among them are the barbecued turkey legs from Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen, which are up to $6 from $5, Crain's reported. The turkey legs used to be sold through Helen's Restaurant, but that restaurant went out of business in the winter, Crain's reported.

In response to the news, the City of Chicago pointed out that only five restaurants are raising prices in total, and only on their most expensive items. There are also 108 items available for $2 or less because each restaurant offers two taste portions, the city said.

There will also be fewer restaurants represented in total this year. But Taste organizers say this will increase traffic flow.

The 10-day festival begins on June 26 in Grant Park.
