A South Side woman was charged with murder late Thursday for allegedly running over her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend with an SUV during a Nov. 17 altercation in the Canaryville neighborhood.
A second woman was seriously injured during the incident.
Kristy Wright, 21, of the 4200 block of South State Street, was charged with one count each of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, police said.
Shaunte Sardin, 35, of 4235 S. Wabash Ave., was struck by a vehicle in the 4100 block of South Wabash Avenue and was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 4:26 p.m. Nov. 17. An autopsy determined Sardin died of multiple injuries from an SUV striking a pedestrian and the death was ruled a homicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Police said Wright was involved in an altercation with Sardin and allegedly intentionally ran her and a second woman over with an SUV about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17.
The other woman, 29, was injured as she attempted to pull Sardin out of the way of the SUV, police said. She was initially taken in serious but stable condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Police said the incident was precipitated by a domestic-related argument between Wright, Sardin and a man identified as Wright's current boyfriend and Sardin's ex-boyfriend, police said.
Wright is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing in Violence Court (Br.66) at noon.
