An armed suspect trying to elude Chicago police ran into a Chicago elementary school around noon today.

The unidentified suspect ran into the auditorium at The Tilton Elementary School, 223 N. Keeler. Police took the suspect into custody. There were no students or staff in the auditorium at the time, police said.

As a precaution, police officers ordered the school locked down so they could sweep the grounds in case the offender dropped or stashed another weapon. None was found, and the school is back to normal operations as of 1 p.m.
