A least one stray bullet struck an 8-year-old boy sitting in his Englewood bedroom late Wednesday on the South Side.
Jonmel Galloway was sitting in his bedroom in the 6500 block of South Green Street when he was struck as bullets came through the window at 11:22 p.m., according to police.
The boy was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital and is expected to recover.
Members of the child's immediately family were in the second-floor residence at the time of the shooting, police said.
The boy apparently was shot once, but has four bullet wounds to his chest and arm.
Jonmel's dad, who's a minister, says he will help his son get over the shooting.
"We're gonna give him spiritual support to let him know that this is life -- and, you know, it goes on," Walter Walker said.
The boy's father says his 18-year-old son lives at the home, and may have been the intended target. No one is in custody for the shooting.
The gunman fled after the shooting and nobody was in custody.
