Newspaper Claims Steve Fossett May Be Alive
London Daily Telegraph Claims Fossett May Have Faked Death To Hide Affair
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Rumors are flying that Chicago adventurer Steve Fossett may still be alive. A British newspaper claims he may have faked his death to cover-up an affair.
Fossett disappeared last October in Nevada and has since been declared dead. The London Daily Telegraph is raising questions from an insurance investigator. Among them: Did Fossett really take-off from the Baron Hilton ranch?
His friend, Virgin Air boss Richard Branson, rejects the speculation. He says "Well if it were true, I'd the happiest man ever. I mean I would love to see Steve Fossett alive. And I would love to see him living somewhere with a beautiful lady. I'm absolutely sure that it's absolutely b*******. And you know he's was the most wonderful man and he had everything to live for. I think it's pretty unfortunate that people are speculating this way. It's below the belt and pretty unpleasant."
Fossett's wife, who inherited his $10 million fortune, also dismisses the reports.
