Athletes/Mountaineers Resume Search For Fossett

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Ten months after his disappearance, the search resumes Monday for Chicago adventurer Steve Fossett.

He took off on a flight from a remote ranch in northern Nevada last September and never returned.

Weeks of searches from the air, and on the ground, turned up no signs of him or his plane.

Monday, a group of 10 elite athletes and expert mountaineers will scour a rugged area near the California-Nevada border where it's believed Fossett crashed.

CBS 2 spoke with the head of the search team Sunday evening. He says he wants to help the family find closure.

A judge in Illinois declared Fossett legally dead in February.

His family is not involved in this latest search.

Members of the group are paying their own expenses.
