If you've got to go, you've got to go, and in St. Charles, you can go just about anywhere you please.

But police are working to change that. They're pitching a new ordinance that would make public urination illegal for the first time in the far western suburb.

Police say they've caught people urinating in public, but as it is now, they haven't been able to do much except tell them to close their pants.

St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain told the Daily Herald that under current law, public urination can result in a disorderly conduct charge only if there are witnesses other than a police officer.

Under the new proposed ordinance, violators would get a $25 ticket.
