2 Officers, 1 Civilian Hurt In Squad Car Crash
All Injured Parties In Good Condition
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
The conditions of two hospitalized Chicago Police officers and another person have improved Thursday morning after a vehicle rear-ended a police car on the West Side early Thursday.
The crash occurred about 12:25 a.m. near the intersection of Kildare Avenue and Wilcox Street when a police car was rear-ended by another vehicle, according to police News Affairs officer David Banks.
Banks said all three victims were in good condition at area hospitals as of 3:55 a.m. Thursday.
Initially, the two police officers were listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital and the third person from the second vehicle was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.
The nature of the victims' injuries were not immediately known, according to Banks.
The police vehicle was a marked municipal city police vehicle, Banks said. It was not learned whether it was a squad car equipped with lights and police stickers or not.
The officers involved were both part of the police Tactical Response Unit, police said.
Banks said if any citations are issued in the crash they will be written for the non-police motorist.
