Man Charged In String Of South Side Burglaries

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A Northwest Side man was charged Wednesday in connection with a string of burglaries and a home invasion on the South Side.

Walter Miller, 51, of the 3000 block of West Fullerton Avenue, is charged with four counts of burglary and one count of home invasion, according to a release from Chicago Police.

Miller was arrested Tuesday by Grand Central Area detectives in the 3500 block of North Central Avenue on a parole violation warrant, according to the release. While conducting their investigation, detectives learned that Miller was also being investigated by South Side detectives in connection with the burglary spree.

Police then conducted line-ups with several of the victims, and Miller was positively identified and charged, the release said.

According to police reports, Miller used deception to prey on elderly victims by claiming to be a city Water Department employee, sewer inspector or utility representative, the release said. After using such false pretenses to gain access to a home, he would steal various items, including cash and jewelry.

Miller is expected to appear in bond court Wednesday afternoon.
