Fire Breaks Out In South Chicago Lounge

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Firefighters quickly controlled a fire Wednesday morning at a South Chicago neighborhood lounge.

The fire started around 6 a.m. on the first floor of a building at 83rd Street and Clyde Avenue, which is home to the New Parks Lounge and other businesses.

The blaze was elevated to a still-and-box alarm, and the first arriving fire companies noticed smoke at the top of the roof. They cut ventilation holes into the roof to enter the void space between the rooftop and the ceiling of the building.

The fire was under control by 6:25 a.m. No one was injured in the fire, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl and the STNG Wire contributed to this report.
