Son To Dad: I Will Run You Over And Kill Your Ass

GARY, Ind. (Post-Tribune) ― Without a gun handy, an angry Jawaun Woods used the only weapon he had to assault his father on Election Day, police said Wednesday.

"You know what, I got my car, I will run you over and kill your ass," Woods, 20, said to his father, Lawrence Smith, the police report states.

Woods had taken his mother from their home in the 1000 block of Harrison Street to her polling place at 11th and Jackson, police said.

While he was stopped in the alley, Woods argued with his 42-year-old father.

Woods threatened to kill him, saying, "You're lucky I don't have my gun," the police report states.

After hearing his son say he'd run him over, Smith started walking away, then heard the motor racing behind him, the report states.

The 2003 Oldsmobile hit Smith, who cracked his head on the windshield.

He needed eight staples to close the wound, Detective Cpl. Arturo Azcona said Wednesday.

Smith also suffered neck, back and leg injuries from the impact, police said.

Patrolmen Daniel Perryman and Michael Hinch arrested Woods, who had returned home.

The young man's mother and other occupants of the car were witnesses to the assault, police said.

Woods is being held at Gary City Jail facing charges of criminal recklessness and aggravated battery.
