3 In Custody In Shooting Of 4-Year-Old Boy

Boy Was Wounded When Shooter Opened Fire On Minivan In West Englewood

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Three people were in police custody Saturday in connection with the shooting of a young child in the South Side's West Englewood neighborhood.

The 4-year-old boy was wounded in the leg Thursday while riding in a minivan with his mother. Someone opened fire on the minivan near 70th Street and Damen Avenue.

The boy was transported first to nearby Holy Cross Hospital and later transferred to University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital. As of Saturday, his condition was reported as stable.

Police say this may not have been a random shooting and the offender may have targeted victims. Residents of West Englewood say their neighborhood has been plagued by violence recently.

No charges had been reported as of noon Saturday.
